{"id":853,"date":"2010-08-30T19:49:34","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T03:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/existingresources.wordpress.com\/?p=853"},"modified":"2012-05-21T19:56:25","modified_gmt":"2012-05-21T19:56:25","slug":"seattle-passive-house-draftless-in-seattle-with-a-41ach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/existingresources.com\/?p=853","title":{"rendered":"Seattle Passive House &#8211; Draftless in Seattle with a .41ACH!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-2nd-blower-door.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-856\" title=\"Seattle PH - 2nd Blower Door\" src=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-2nd-blower-door.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"136\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><a href=\"mailto:HomePerformanceInc@gmail.com\">David Vollan<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/evoworx.homeperformancewashington.org\/member\/providers\/2062\/\">Home Performance, Inc. <\/a>came out to do Dan&#8217;s 2nd blower door test today.\u00a0 It was a resounding success.\u00a0 The house registered a .41 ACH @ 50 pascals.\u00a0 The Tectite Building Airtightness software v 3.2 projected a 121cfm for anyone wanting to know the PH Nerd Numbers.\u00a0 Way to go Dan!<\/p>\n<p>Dan has had some other accomplishments this past week &#8211; he passed his electrical, plumbing, and framing inspections!\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-electrical.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-857\" title=\"Seattle PH - Electrical\" src=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-electrical.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a> He said that he noticed the draft from the positive pressure in the sewer line was blowing a continual stream of cool air through the plumbing ventilation stack and was concerned that with all the sealing he was doing, that this is a leak he could not prevent.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-plumbing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-858\" title=\"Seattle PH - Plumbing\" src=\"http:\/\/existingresources.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/seattle-ph-plumbing.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>In Seattle homes are required to have a plumbing vent that exits the building envelope and allows the sewer gas to escape.\u00a0 This is for health reasons.\u00a0 AAV&#8217;s or Air Admittance Valves are another way to deal with this issue in a way that would not affect the building envelope.\u00a0 Dan was told that he would not be able to do that on this project.\u00a0 Another Certified Passive House Consultant, Tad Everhart has been successful in getting a code alternative allowed for his project in Oregon and he is using a combination of solutions for the negative and positive pressures that need to be addressed.\u00a0 Tad used Studor AAV&#8217;s for the negative pressures and installed a 2 way valve for the positive pressure instead of the traditional plumbing stack vent.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/phnw.org\/PHnw-2010-04-26_presentations\/PHnw-2010-04-26_Everhart.pdf\">You can see more of what Tad did regarding his PH project here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next up is drywall and painting while Dan works on the landscaping.\u00a0 Time to make this Passive House look more like a home!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Vollan of Home Performance, Inc. came out to do Dan&#8217;s 2nd blower door test today.\u00a0 It was a resounding success.\u00a0 The house registered a .41 ACH @ 50 pascals.\u00a0 The Tectite Building Airtightness software v 3.2 projected a 121cfm for anyone wanting to know the PH Nerd Numbers.\u00a0 Way to go Dan!
